1. Intent
At Shinfield St Mary’s Junior School we intend Design and Technology to nurture children’s creativity and problem-solving skills in a practical, broad and balanced curriculum that sets high expectations. Children at our school relish the opportunities to be hands on in DT projects and we want them to gain analytical reflection when designing so that they can confidently take risks and understand that ‘mistakes’ are a valued, integral part of the creative process.
We understand that DT offers skills in planning, flexibility, reflectiveness, precision, resourcefulness, communication which results in innovative and creative thinkers. Through hands on and practical experiences we aim for children to leave Year 6 with the knowledge and skills within the designing cycle. We strive for children to have passion in this subject because we understand the role DT plays in their futures and aim to start to the spark for future engineers, carpenters, chefs, designers and architects.
